London　(31/01/2008)
　I've backed from London. We discussed yesterday "Hopefully we'd like to back to Hotel at 6:00PM", But we finished job after 8:00PM. The flight from London was delay. Therefor I used taxi from HH airport tonight. I backed home at 11:30PM. But it was better to but suvenior to office at Heathrow airport, bevause i tired and don't have time tommorow. And I went to distination by underground as reading book. It is same as my general procedure in Tokyo. Only one difference is that I never sleep in train at foreign country city area.

　This time we went to customer site by teo person. Martin is window person of this customer, but he has been busy this week, and I'll not be able to go to London next week because of I'll go to Tokyo as business trip next week. So, Martin requested me that I went to London as window person in this visit. Actualy, I made simulation that explain current situstion and can simulate direction od readjustment, and explain result and direction to colleagues, and make consensun with them. And also I asked to Tokyo if our direction was right or not. Exactry, I already went to Glasgow to have installation in customer site and have training to UK sales and service member. Does martin admit that I can do by oneself at customer site? Sometimes there is one explanation that new Japanese colleague needs two years to be capable in job for good results.

Domestic　(29/01/2008)
　I looked strange dream last night. I couldn’t do one of technique for bar “Sakaagari”. It’s bad dream for me. I don’t know current child’s situation. In the boy’s world at elementary or junior high school in my age, the hero has good talent in sports, for example ball games or gymnastics. I don’t have any talent for it. So I was bite the dust by not only other boys but also teacher.

　I played football at junior high school. I made the final roster at last season, but hadn’t played official game. Might be, I don’t have good talent for ball games. But I had talent for long endurance sport, for example long distance run or swimming. But, if boy doesn’t have talent for it, he is accepted his performance by others.

　But I think it was better. Because I knows how other feels if he is done same procedure. So, I wouldn’t like to do it to others. And I thought that I would improve my talent that is mathematics or physics. I met teacher who improved my talent in high school. And I work Europe by improve my talent that I didn’t imagine.

　Recently, I think many issues. So diary is too long. I’ll go to UK as business trip from now until Thursday. I fell that going to UK is same as domestic.

　By the way, we call our division, which support all Europe, as “International” And we call a division, which support German market as “German National” I asked “Why is it National not Domestic?” He answered that German word “Domesto” means washing bath and dish. So Germany avoid it. I couldn’t imagine that before listen it.

The sense of value　(28/01/2008)
　Wolfgang asked me which bicycle is better. So, he is planning to buy new bicycle. I suggest that at least 105 system is better because it has 10speed. If you have enough many, Dura Ace is best, because it is strong. Finally you pay little many. For example, I've used one hub of wheel since 1996. He checked bicycle shop web site and said, “I must ask to my wife if I’d like to buy Ultegra”.

　He has normal sense of money, and knows relationship between cost and end user price of products. And also he is German and knows European travel situation. So, I asked him, “I’d like to buy new travel bag for one week business trip. How do you think RIMOWA?” He said, “RIMOWA is expensive even it’s strength, Anyway, Ken, your travel case is good. Where did you buy it, and how much is it?” Ah so. I bought it to travel Europe in Japan. Exactly I selected color very carefully. But it is not expensive. I’m happy by his suggestion! So, I’ll use it.

　Of course, Wolfgang suggests it by looking exterior of Martin’s RIMOWA and his travel frequency about 100 flight per years. In word, sense of value depends on each other’s situation. I think that RIMOWA has enough strength per cost values for normal Japanese travel frequency. I heard that all zipper type is weak.

I've changed my lifestyle　(27/01/2008)
　Today, I don't sleep still now. Because I must Tel to Japan to request finish work until we start next morning. So, I must push them. I'm making presentation data as watching DVD. There is few script in Mr. Been. I'll go bed as finish It.

　By the yway, there was one request to come to office at 8:00, because we will have Tel meeting with Tokyo. For me it is easy and no problem, because I've changed my lifestyle since New Year's day. I come to Office at 7:30 every weekday. I'm afraid that you don't able to come to office this time. It depends on to join this meeting whether I go to business trip or not in this week and tomorrow’s result.

　Anyway, I've written English diary every day when I wrtite Japanese version. Now, It has been pleasure for me, it is not hard now. So it is important continue to change myself as custom.

Whisper of the heart　(27/01/2008)
　There is general rules in Japanese about takeover some electronics or furniture when a colleague back to Japan. Basically, new one charged discount price which was bought by myself, and old one charge free which is took over free or discount price. I agree to this rule, because I wouldn't like to make money in this case. Especially, we can not send back household electronics equipment to Japan, because many one support to only European voltage 220-240V, and audio system is not same as Japan. Europe is PAL, Japan is NTSC. I took over AV equipment TV, DVD and Video, I'll use it carefully and takeover it to successor.

　So, I didn't use many to electronics equipment without broken mini stereo system. But, I used many yesterday for electronics. I bought new PC monitor. Of course, I've not received new PC from PC shop. May be, it will not arrived me before I'll go to Japan as business trip. Many German and Japanese colleagues said "It's Germany". So, I make system like desktop PC by using note PC and Japanese key-board.


　It's too huge! May be, its better size for me. If it is larger than this, I'll tire by moving my eyes. This monitor is convenience to write English version diary by seeing Japanese version side by side. Our products use 2-monitor system, but t is biggest size monitor which I've used until now. I think it is good design not like normal PC monitor.

　I write diary like this image. I write it in HTML files by using text editor, and copy and paste it to blog pages. Now, many personal home page has changed to only blog, so is it few case? But, it's better to elaborate content.

　Today, I watched "SiCKO". There is not English sub titles. The director goes to not only USA but also Europe. For me it is easy to listen British English. I'll try to watch it several times. I bought this DVD in Heathrow airport. Then I discuss with Martin about USA insurance system. When he was in Kennedy space center, then the president Clinton tried to make national health insurance systems. But there were many contrary opinions even Kennedy space center.

　And I watched also "Whisper of the heart" first time. As you can se my home page. I lived housing estate where heroine lives in this movie. And also I used Iroha-saka to go to high school that is very famous place. So, there are my favorite places. Of course it is not same as real. May be, my point of view for this movie is not same as other person.

To Let　(26/01/2008)

　Also today, I went to Italian restaurant and ate Bolognese. Because I'd like to eat carbohydrate food today.


　And it is Porsche GT3 Cup Car. He uses it as town use.

　I made space by throwaway books that I don't read twice, while DVD is increasing and occupy space. I will arrange space for DVD, when new PC will come because I can arrange CD data in iTunes. In the UK, Price of DVD is very cheep, so I bought many DVD when I went to business trip. Especially I bought Studio Gibri's DVD. I know story of it, and there are Japanese + English script, English + English Script and only English. It helps to study English. I watched "Princess Mononoke" and "Miyazaki's Spirited Away" last night, because I take it to Japan as souvenir.

　And I watched "Saving private ryan". For me it feels better to listen English of Tom Hanks. Of course his English is not British English. And also I bought "SiCKO", but I've not watched it now. I think it is difficult to understand because it might be medical English that I don't know. In London, I talked with Martin about American English. Because sometimes it isn't easy to listen their English at international meeting in Tokyo, and it is not same as British English, which is familiar to me now. Martin said "Eastern speaks with a trill, and omits some pronunciation, Of course they are native speaker". I agree. Prof. Batista who we visit last week in London is Argentine and speaks with a trill, for example R. But his pronunciation is near to British without R, so it is better for me to listen his speaking.

　Finally, I will go subject. When we went London as business trip last June. Michael and I went to lab from hotel by walking. Then we talked "There are so many Toilet in London?" each other. Actually it is "To Let" not "Toilet". Any way, there are so many rooms to let.

English or German?　(25/01/2008)
　We talked about much with other Japanese colleagues at Chinese restaurant. There was one submit "Which is priority German or English?". And sometimes I read web page that is written about Japanese businessman who lives in Germany, can't speak German, and "Right and wrong of it". Of course, it is better that we can speak German. Actually, we don't have enough performance to learn German. I can understand question of German who doesn't work with me "Why can't you speak German?". There isn't any discussion about intention about "How does German colleagues think it who works with me" surprisingly.

　Just in my case, I discussed with Martin at London. He said "Of course, it is better that you can speak German to live in Germany. But your priority is English. This is clear". Do you know reason why they think it? We ,them, and I has customers and business partners in not only Germany but also all Europe area. We must contact them by English as business language. And if we can't have enough communication with them and will have bad turnover, we will loss not only salary but also post! Colleagues said clearly that we had job with whole Europe. Of course, if I do the job with only German, then my priority will be German not English, and I must learn German very well. So, priority is due to what is my job.

　German bosses at first interview informed me about it when I came to Hamburg. They are quite severe. And also they think that my sense is not German. For example, it is same as professional bicycle team CSC that is totally established European team. Team manager Riis is requesting to learn English to team member. In the London, customers and we are not British before Steve and Rosy come. Of course we used English as business tool each other.

　Now, I can start to learn German, because bosses admit my English level. And sometimes I've faced difficult situation in German life. But, it doesn’t changed that my first priority is still English not German. It is important what don't take mistake the end or mean. And also, it is better to study German with good English level, if I'd like to learn English and German same time.

I love aerospace　(24/01/2008)
　The newspaper which I informed Monday was Nikkei Sangyo newspaper not Nikkei newspaper.

　Martin and I had dinner in London, and talked about what was job at lab each other. As background, under graduate students does "Study". Because, they study and have practice teacher expects that’s results. Master and doctor degree student does "Job". Because they do the research and use budget and have to report to Professor each week as one of stuff in lab. And there is few lecture which is one par week as average. It is easy to acquire credit if he isn't real lazy man. They must write paper that is checked by at least three professors, and also must pass oral examination. They can not graduate even if they acquire enough classes. My professor said "You do job though pay money as school fee".

　I surprised. Because Martin worked with Ms. Chiaki Mukai as colleague. Ms Mukai is astronaut who flies as first Japanese woman and fly twice as Japanese. Martin worked with Ms. Mukai who is as astronaut not medical doctor in university hospital. Because, Germany charged some experiences in her first flight mission. So, Martin took charge of one of experiments and lectured about it to Ms. Mukai. And he supported her at flight control in Houston!! I know he was biologist and lived in the USA after he took Ph.D. But I didn't know reason why of it, but I satisfy it! He is great!

　By the way, I designed optics of one apparatus in Japanese space experiment as one of job when I was in Japan. But Japanese space plan has been delayed, because delay of space shuttle and H2A locket. When, it'll go to space? Until now, Japanese "Kibou" space unit is not launched to orbit round the earth.

Male or Female?　(23/01/2008)
　Last year, I went the place where is opposite side of British museum the Holborn station. This week, I went the hotel that is across the street. Of course, we didn't have time to go to there, because we went to London as business trip. Monday, we did job until 9 PM, but we finished after 7 PM as we talked that we should finish early today in Tuesday. So I could go to HMV CD shop and bought DVD before dinner. I checked where HMV is by google, but I didn't print out. So I could go to there only by my memory. When I back to the Hotel, I looked guidebook at lobby. The shop was front of Covent Garden. Is it famous place?

　I didn't sight seeing, but I went to electrical shop 3 times. Because we must get 2 RS232C cables in London. So we asked "Where is electrical shop?". And I went. But I didn't know which type cable is necessity male or female type connector? And, I didn't bring my handy. I couldn't ask to Martin. Therefore, I went back at once and checked it and went to buy correct type cables.

　After then, one of them is good, but other one couldn't move. So Martin asked to Wolfgang about it. He answered one of them is straight, and other is cross type. Martin said as joke to Wolfgang "Ken is electric shop muster in London". Finally, I went to electrical shop 3 times.

　I didn't know that RS232C has 2 types normal RS232C and Null modem that is cross type. Who designed its electronics part? Why they use several type of cables!!

To the London　(21/01/2008)
　My flight to London is before noon. So I'm relax now.

　As one information, there will be one feature in 22nd Nikkei newspaper about one imaging facility that was established as partnership of Riken and our company. I don't concern it directly, but there is one product which I designed optics of it. Actually, I'll go to London as customer training and business meeting about It.

　How about Heathrow air port? I'd like to go to HMV shop to buy souvenir for parent’s house. Already, I've checked that there is one HMV shop in the neighborhood of Hotel.

　Now, I'm checking mail before I leave, and am received mail from Martin. He is checking all mail before leave to airport.

It's rain　(20/01/2008)
　Today was also rain, and I'm recovering my health. So I woke up late in this morning. I think my condition is better to better day by day. I make optical lesson text today, so I have enough margin now.


　This picture is German post bicycle. Stand is in interesting position. Passenger can change position of it with sitting on saddle. When I came to Hamburg, many colleagues suggest "Take care your bicycle to avoid be stolen", exactly, many colleagues were stolen. But post passenger doesn't keep lock and speaks in cafe shop. I think post passenger wear uniform, so is it safe?

I've caught cold and it was rain. Therefore I didn't ride bicycle today. I'll stay home also tomorrow. I've not cooked pasta in my room this month. So, I went Italian restaurant today. I ate Pomodolo Mozzarella. And I checked TFT monitor for PC at Saturn, which is front of central station. There is one good monitor. Of course I'll buy it after PC delivery.


　By the way, people even who graduate engineering colleague forget mathematics in high school level. I don't forget it. In my case, the reason is simple. I studied mathematics as I can guide all mathematical rules. So, I studied mathematics like I ride bicycle. In university, I realized that my talent for mathematics is not enough level as mathematician. So, I said "I did collect selection".

Other part, I don't remember chemistry. It is not same as mathematics for me, because I studied it only to pass examination. So, there is not any royal road to learning. Now I'm trying to say phrase that is used by Martin and Wolfgang (It is English not German). And I remember it. I've wrote this English version page as several purpose, one of it is that I expect to read it someone, second one is my practice of English to write it as daily study.

Catch Cold　(18/01/2008)
I've caught a cold and had a sore throat little bit since Wednesday. I know reason. I didn't wear jacket. German colleague opened window when we had meeting last Wednesday. I'll try to recover myself in this weekend because I'll go to London as business trip since next Monday.

　I could order English version XP PC by help of Wolfgang. PC shop said "I'll send estimated price tomorrow" at Wednesday in last week. But there was no answer, so I pushed some times. At last I've got final estimation. It'll need one or two weeks that PC will come to me. This is cheaper price than mail order to UK, and also I'll be able to get support from PC shop. There is one pleasure that I can select monitor. What is your recommend? Of course I'll have to set PC to be able to indicate and input Japanese characters.

　I suggested to Wolfgang that we are able to entry by company7s team. But it was closed already. Leader surprised that I started training already when we talked about it. Don't normal German ride bicycle in winter?

Full operate　(17/01/2008)
　My brain full operated on the morning. There was question from colleagues about irregular use and counter measure. Of course, this is my work that is expected me, because if it is regular situation, they doesn't have to ask me. It is easy to say "No", but I wouldn't like to say it. So I cited counter measure in my mind as possible. It is worst answer that "I said it is possible, but it is not possible actually now". So I checked negative factor of all and eliminated one by one, and thought other possibilities again. This is engineering way.

　In the afternoon, I translated manual to English from Japanese. It is high cost! I had some request to Tokyo. So, I pushed Tokyo with attached this translated manual. So this is give and take between head quarter and me. Of course I could read it deep. There was good question from Martin, because there was one of answer in manual that is translated by me just now! Therefore I could ask to Tokyo with accuracy. It is easy way to ask that "This is possible?” but it is better to ask, "I think there is possibility, for example A, B and C. How do you think? Is it right?". I'm expected this procedure from German and Japanese colleagues.

On and on　(16/01/2008)
　Colleagues have arranged lunch or dinner with "Ken". Thank you!! I can use same sentence, it is my intention today. We went to China restaurant. It is other purpose, we talked about many issues that was very interesting because I could listen about other division.


　We had meeting until evening today. There was a mail that came from leader of our company's bicycle team when I backed to my desk. I call him by Tel, then he requested to me to go to his office. He must fill entry sheet of cyclasics for members. So I went to his office and fill entry sheet. So, I've finished entry to Hamburg cyclasics already.

I've changed Life style　(15/01/2008)
I've recorded time of sunrise and sunshine in Hamburg and Tokyo. Today, sunrise was earlier than opening time of our office 8:30! And also the hours of sunlight are longer than 8 hours. The difference of it between Hamburg and Tokyo has been less than 2 hours from today. The sunrise is getting along 2 minutes day by day. And it is changing twice of Tokyo, because Hamburg is in high latitude area. I think that sunshine of both will be same in first of February when I will go to Japan as business trip. I've changed life style to come to office before 8 o'clock. Therefore it was still dark when I came to office today. I declared to colleagues in our room that I've changed my life style since first of January. Now, I can contact with Tokyo easily, and also I can contact after 15 o'clock with USA office where is in Eastern Time. So it is possible to work around world.

　I read Ogawa-san's Blog and approve to his suggestion. I'd like to be natural and a supple mind without admire myself and without unnecessary reserves. I'd like to comment in his Blog, but I can't comment by technical reason? So I track back my Blog to his Blog!

I can understand how to count in German little bit　(14/01/2008)
　There isn't any mail from Tokyo because Japan is national holiday today. Therefore I could use time for my job.

　German colleagues asked me "What kind of national holiday is today?". I explained about "Seijin-no-Hi" that is celebrating day for new adult person in this year. In Germany, over 18 years old persons are adult. And then we talked about law of marry in Germany and Japan. It is same as Japan that minor must get permission from their parents if they'd like to marry. Big difference is that under 18 years old boy can marry. Wolfgang said "I watched TV news program. The number of divorce is increasing in Japan, because married couple don't say thank you together". I can understand. It is only to be expected that adult say thank if someone does them something. Exactly, I said many times "Thank you" and "Your welcome" after I came to German. Especially, I can not compare with how many I said "You are welcome (Bitte Schoene)" between Japan and German.

　Martin and I told about weekend this morning. He said that his older son prepared homework and examination in weekend. There are examinations each half year in German gymnasium. There will be one of them on end of January. If he lost two subjects without skill subject like an art or athletic, he will have to repeat a grade. The result is expressed by 6 grade in Germany. 1 means best, 6 means worst. This is opposite of Japan. martin said that Switzerland is same as Japan. Lower than 5 means failure. Usually worst is 5, If students record worst result and had bad behavior in lesson, he will be evaluated as 6.

　Lunchtime, I picked one telephone call from the entrance. One visitor who was invited by Dimmer came from Moscow, but Dimmer had gone to lunch. Therefore I picked up him and went to lunch together. He speaks good English. But sometimes I had to say to him twice because he couldn't understand what I said. I remember one important advice for me from English teacher "Ken, You don't need to rush. Please speak slowly and clearly, It isn't important to speak English fluently". We selected "Curry Wurst" that is typical German food, sausage with curry ketchup. He said "It's very hot!". For us, this is sweat. It is less than Japanese sweat curry. Doesn't Russian eat hot food in Russia?

　I said "It'll be from 9 o'clock" suddenly when Wolfgang asked Martin about tomorrow's telephone conference. Wolfgang surprised strongly and said "Ken, do you understand German?". I answered "Well. Is ""telephone conference"" German?". Also, I could understand that Martin said "8:30". And I can understand how to count in German rule and listen it. But, it is difficult to say numbers in German rule which go and back! For example, German call 23 as "Dri und Zwantig". It is "Three and Twenty". Sometimes I confuse to count number in German rule. And I can understand traffic information in "Energy Hamburg" which is music sophisticated FM station. Of course I can guess it by help of street name.

Poricy2？　(13/01/2008)
　There were some advises to me before I come to Hamburg. One of them was that I wrote it on 9th January. Other big advice was that "You should make your job by yourself in the oversea office. Nobody give it to you without any your effort". I agree. If I'm in Japanese develop division. There are many jobs that I have to do without my discretion, because there are many product plans and timetable. Now, I have a many jobs, for example communicates to Tokyo. But I can do other many jobs by my discretion.

　I couldn't say "I'd like to do,," at first. As I write, German colleague didn't trust me without any effective result. So, I had to do job one by one and had to show actual result. After first step was done, I started to go out to customer site with my request "I'd like to go to trouble shouting, please use me". Now, especially Martin offers me if I had a time to go to customer site that faces difficult problem or has very interesting knowledge and idea for me. So, I think that German colleagues trust me and think that Ken is useful for them as optical engineer!

　So, I offered optical lesson by myself. I should do to change how do the job not only me but also others, if I'd like to ease my job. Of course it is hard to make optical lesson text at first time. But I'll be easy finally. Martin read English version optical text that was made by me when he had time to read it on the business trip. And he said "It is good idea and is good text for non-optical background people!". There wasn't any optical lesson that was done step by step. I'm glad to get good evaluation not only "Thank you!" but also "Good job!".

　Yesterday, another Martin and I faced trouble and solve it finally. Then I said to Martin "I'll have German lesson since February. By the way, how do you think my English level? So I can't evaluate it by myself". Then Martin said, "I think you are 1000% of your first level when you came to Hamburg. No problem, You can understand 100% what I say. And I can understand 100% what Ken say. You can catch up it! Of course native's talk is difficult. I can't understand 100% of Rosy's talk. She speaks very quickly". Hahaha! The percentage is great because denominator is small. So I can improve my English from now!

Pork　(12/01/2008)

　Today, It is warm 10 degree. There weren't radiation cooling last week because it was rain. I feel hot at 10 degree. But wind is too strong today, so I could good hard bicycle training. I checked position of cyclocross bike. For check of position, it is better to compare with position of road bike and cyclocross bike when I finished bike training. Now, I feel that these bikes have same position.


　This picture is today's lunch. This is circle shape (French: Medaillon) pork fillet with braised mushroom and onion, baked potato with sour cream and salad. Is Geschmorten the past participle of Schmoren? I've not eaten pork without cafeteria. I'll eat Zoni tomorrow. Exactly, I'd like to eat Oshiruko.

　Hamburg is warmer than Tokyo today. I'm checking weather repot of Tokyo and Hamburg every day. Because, I'm recording the sunrise time and sunset time of these city. It is possible to check in Yahoo.com not Yahoo.co.jp. Already, Sunset is not latest time and Sunrise is not latest time in Hamburg. These times are changing 1 or 2 minutes day by day. But sunrise time in Tokyo is not changing sine 1st Jan as 6:51. So it is bottom of curve in the year.

Recentry　(11/01/2008)
　Colleagues have arranged lunch or dinner with "Ken". Thank you!! There is strong network in Japanese wife's community. Sometimes I heard that they speak gossip. But they have good information about restaurant in Hamburg. Also the information about Italian restaurant was came from this network. We ate "Kimuchi" and "Bibinba". I didn't know correct spell "Bibimbam".

Face to face　(10/01/2008)
　Today was very tough! I was strongly damaged by one decision in the morning, and have come back from damage finally. Boss and I went out to lunch. Boss afraid me, because big boss rejected my trip request and my face was bad looking after that's information. We met big boss who rejected my apply, at the restaurant. Then he said "By the way, the answer for your apply is not No. You can do. Please think our employee guide line since next apply". We were totally surprised. After the lunch, Boss and I told "Does it means OK, Sir?", "I think so. You can fly to Japan in March. I could not read in his decision mail that does not said "No".

　I felt that language and communication are very difficult and tough. It is important to communicate by face to face together. Today, we could solve misunderstanding by only short face to face communication! I would like to communicate with you by face to face!

　I've translated full this month text to English. Yesterday I took 2 hours to translate it that had still one Japanese sentence. There are many spelling mistakes. So I checked it today! Exactly I mistook many times to same spell, but this is good English training for me!

　I start English version diary from today! I've done my job by this English level. Possibly elegant English is better, but my first priority is accuracy of content. 　And I went to super market when I back to my home. Then I dropped one glass of beer and broke it... So, I called one employee.

　There is one book that was written by super counsel of company. Our company's rule is based on his book. Some years ago, there were many rules. For example, employee who works in abroad can not play golf etc. His priority was "Japanese employee should join each country's culture". I agree his idea. But there is problem. The personal department agrees his book blindly and does not continue to fit rule to current situation. Other Japanese employee who go out to abroad after me, receive copy of his book. I think it is piracy.

　Anyway, other Japanese colleagues who back from abroad blanch office advised me. Their advice was "You should work one by one and step by step as one of local stuff. You shouldn't think you came from Japanese head quarter. It is important that you will be recognized by all local stuff as ""He has good performance and He is capable"". At first, all local stuff think ""He is good for nothing"" because of your poor English performance. And also you will not be useful actually at first". I and my Japanese and German boss made target of me when I moved to Germany. Of course, my final target is necessary help of all European colleagues. I feel this is a time to accelerate me now, Because I hope many European colleagues think that "Ok, Ask to Ken when I have problem" now.

　I felt impatience about my performance when I came to Germany, Because I felt it is not enough for my salary. But my Japanese boss said "At first, all Japanese colleague can not work enough when he came to abroad blanch office. Because you are compared with your precursor. If local stuff feel that your performance is same as your precursor at first, it means that your precursor didn't work enough". I see!! I don't know when I will back to Japan. I'll do my best to my successor will be said "He is good for nothing" when he come to Germany.

It is important to continue as custom?　(08/01/2008)
　I received a mail that was come from one of Japanese colleague in Hamburg. I write one document when I faced one problem and solved it. This document is not necessary for me now. But I write it and update it to board system for Japanese colleagues. He has faced one problem since three years ago. And my document solved his problem. So he send appreciation mail to me. I'm pleased to receive his thanks mail.

　This is comment in Blog of Mr. Mozuku"You must change your disposition if you'd like to change your spirit. You must change your constitution if you'd like to change your disposition. You must change your custom if you'd like to change your constitution. Actually this is circuitous way. But this is only way to improve us". I see!! Of course it is important to don't shake direction day by day, and also it is important to agree my weak point and try to change it. So it is only way to do as custom and change myself one by one, because I'm not fresh as baby. But, it'll ingrain to me, if I continue it and do it as custom. For example it is unbelievable for me, I couldn't continue to write diary when I was child, but I continue diary now!

　Today, we are informed about new structure of our division. Still now, I'm report to Martin, and also I'm responsibility of Wolfgang from today. Wolfgang said that he start training for HH triathlon in summer. So he swam morning and came to office! I came to office 8 o'clock today, and he came 9 o'clock. When does he start training this morning? I try to change my custom to come to office early morning. The traffics were good in road and subway. I had enough time to communicate to Tokyo and could use time to my job this morning. I'll be able to start bike training in the evening when summer time starts end of March. German colleague who had experience to participate in German tour has good training every day as full time worker! And Japanese president was in office already when I came to office!! When he come to office?

　I'll have Germany lesson from February. I didn't have it when I came to Germany, because my priority is English as stuff of European head quarter. I thought that I’d not have it any more. But my boss offered me to have it. I decide to have it as a supple mind. Of course I don't have it to avoid confuse if I continue English lesson still now. English lesson finished already. So I can have German lesson. Martin said "the improvement of your English when you went to workshop in Cambridge UK was better than other daily improvement". And I think as forward looking that my English level has cleared minimum level for job and is accepted by boss! Of course I've continued English study by myself. I think that I can improve my English very well than current level.

　I said to German colleagues that I’d start German lesson. Then, Wolfgang said to Martin "We must take care our talk because Ken will understand it". I think it is tough because you are native German speaker. If I'd like to catch up your quick German talk as native, I must study German as first foreign language. Martin and Wolfgang said, "It is too tough to understand talk between Rosy and Steve (who are British and native English speaker)". For Martin and Wolfgang, English is first foreign language. Even them, it is difficult to understand perfectly. I asked them "Martin, how do you call Wolfgang ""Du"" or ""Sie""?". They use "Du" to call colleague. And Martin said he used "Sie" to call professor who is his boss. When he used "Du" in examined Ph.D., other professor frowned him. Because, there was official place. It is better to use "Sie" in this case.

　Many colleagues start to work today in this year. One colleague who had log holiday from Christmas to yesterday came to our room. Then he said that his son doesn't believe Santa Claus now but takes care his young sister who believes Santa Claus still now. Wolfgang asked me why Santa Claus wears red cloth. Answer is advertisement of Coca Cora. Really? In the 1930s, Coca Cora used Santa Claus as their advertisement and changed color of cloth from brown to red that is their corporate color. I have no idea if it was true or not.

　Dimmer brings me his Russian book that was written about Japanese language. In first page, it is written abut how Kanji character "日" birth. And it was written about "東映" and "大映". Why? This book suggests that these are movie companies. And there were oil companies "日本石油" and "大協石油".... ?

First training by cyclocross　(06/01/2008)

　Today, I had training. Of course I keep traffic signal. But there are not any signal in my training field. It is better to keep to warm against cold. And I can back home when I face any trouble. I can use Bus line 124 that go to Holiday in and central station.


　The weather was good. But the sun was low and temperature was low. So I thought that puddle would not dry. So I used cyclocross bike that has complete mud guard. So I had good training without to afraid water.


　I don't have winter shoes cover of MTB type bike shoes. There are some meshes. My legs will be cold. So I wore bag that was made by plastic and wore shoes. It is good idea with good effect.

　Today I didn't go to eat lunch to restaurant. I felt sleep when I back home. So, I cooked Zoni and ate it with sleepiness. There is one instant soup until now. May be I'll use it next weekend. I met 5 bikers today. I ride bicycle Sunday and Saturday in last weekend. Now my shape is good. It looks normal bicycle racers!!

　Today, I had first bike ride in this year. Weather report said it’d be rain. But it was good in the morning. So I start to ride. The sunrise at 10 o'clock is like this picture in the Winter Europe.


　River is freezing!! This is picture of Elbe River. I met 2 bikers today.


　I like this landscape in my main training field. I feel wind and weather. I check when is the best to return to home. I met little rain, then I returned. Finally I didn't face real rain. When I back home it start to rain. Today I ride 55 km by 2 hour. So it is good distance because I against wind by myself without any help! My weight is just 60kg today!


　I went to Italian restaurant where I went to there New Years Eve. Usually I eat Carbonara when I go to Italian restaurant first time. But I did not it then. So I challenged it today. Taste was good!

　By the way, I think that human look myself when he suggests other person like a he looks mirror. Because positive person said "You are positive" and devious person said "You are devious". I think that they are looking themselves without knowing it. My colleagues save me. Because they are totally positive. So they evaluate me as positive. I will be positive if I'm evaluated as positive!

　And how about me by my evaluation? I aim to be supple mind. I'll challenge to change me if I mistake and have weak point without throwing ball and golf. I think it is better to improve my talent. Many colleagues who are not in our division recognize me as Biker.

　Today Wolfgang asked me about Harbor marathon.

　I start to have lecture about basic optics to my colleagues. A target is that I increase my working time for other job what is capable of only me as optical engineer. If they can answer easy question without me, it is possible. Of course they can answer it by looking text, and can understand which level is possible to answer for them. At first, it is for Japanese colleagues. Of course I am writing text not only Japanese version but also English version. English version is easy. Because Wolfgang and I can check each other and he request to read it when I report about optical lesson in my monthly report.

　Other purposes are that re-study and check my optical knowledge. I'm checking that my knowledge is same as definition in the optical text. And it is good training for me to lecture optics to non-engineering background people. Sometimes it looks cool when presenter uses many technical words. But it is not better to improve knowledge of students. It is too difficult to explain about optics without mathematical expression. It request to me that I must have real deep understanding.

　I am thinking about final level of this lesson. The big problem is "Pupil". So sometimes it is difficult to understand for even optical engineer who start study optics as new employee. If our products are cameras, we do not need to have deep knowledge of pupil. But it is important knowledge for our optical products. It is easy to understand imaging. For example subject and image (CCD of Digital camera). But there is not any image of pupil. So, I must think about it and teach it carefully.

　And I must have lesson possibly without mathematical expression. So sometimes non-engineering people have feeling of rejection if they look mathematical expression. It means that I can explain lower than mathematical expression level. Sometimes people said if it was impossible to understand real physical definition and real knowledge without mathematical expression. I think it is not real knowledge of physics if they understand without any mathematical expression. So it needs to able to explain any physical result by mathematical expression. For me, it is not good level for me about wave optics. So, I will try to study it one by one to catch my target in Europe!

　Congratulation for Takako Matsu marry with one musician!

　Only few colleagues worked today. Because many colleagues have holiday and will start job from next Monday. Martin takes holiday from 22nd Dec to 6th Jan, it is 16 days! But, he had telephone call to office to prepare business trip in next week. There are Wolfgang and I. Wolfgang said it is call from Israel when telephone machine ring. I catch it. It was telephone call from Israel!

　I had two pencils like to have chopstick in the office. Then Wolfgang asked me.

　　W "Are you hungry?"
　　K "Nnn?? This is training"
　　W "Training????"
　　K "Japanese traditional way is like this. But my way is like this. My parents did not correct me. Now I am correcting it by myself"
　　W "You are funny guy!"

　So, He called me "Crazy" and "Funny". Next it will be "Fanatic"?

　Wolfgang is helping me to buy English XP version PC. So, there is one PC shop that sells English PC for our product. He bought one PC as personal use with low price.

Because of new years holiday　(02/01/2008)

　Today I ate Zoni. It is special food for Japanese New Year holiday. I changed the number of rice cake to 4 and change kind of instant Japanese soup.


　It is picture of cooking seen of Zoni when I cooked it. May be, You say it is not my way to use chopsticks. As you know, I didn't keep Japanese traditional manner. My parents didn't correct me because they were busy. For my muscle, it is tough. I didn't use some muscle to use chopsticks. And sometimes chop stick slip on my finger... So, I'll have training step by step.

　One Japanese colleague knows it. But he said "Exactly you changed. But it is funny still now". Ummm. Please prize me to challenge it at first. So, I think it is Japanese way in every situation. I turned the suggestion into my advance when I was in Japan. I had one idea. But other engineer suggests "It is not good idea. It will be mistake". So, I tried to make one prototype type by using poor material. Finally I succeed to develop one technique and product. Of course, I checked if it had weak point in the way of development as engineer. But it is important to challenge and test it. And I applied one patent.

　May be, that's patent will be offered to judge in patent office. I hope it will be registered successfully. It means I'll get money as inventor. Of curse I have no idea how much it is and if it did successfully. So, I'm thinking about optical layout in my mind. It is important to think it every time. Sometimes good idea will come to my brain if I think it every time. It is not same level. But I think it was real story that Apple tree of Newton. He thought about universal gravitation every time. So it was trigger to connect many ideas that were thought by Newton.

　I read one Hamburg Bloger 上昇気流 How about me if I face my limit. Exactly, human show his essence when he face his limit.

　You should make your plans for the year on New Years day. My ambition is to be supple mind. What will happen in this year? I have lived Hamburg 1.5 year. It is about a third of my Hamburg life that I expect. I'll change speed to catch up my target of job in Europe.


　My parents asked me if I ate Japanese Zoni. I made Zoni by using instant Japanese soup and rice cake. One Japanese woman who worked in the USA as biology technician taught me how cook rice cake in foreign house. She suggest it is better to fry rice cake with oil spread fry Pan.

Happy New Year　(01/01/2008)
　Hamburg is 2008 now! It is fog out of my house. It isn't real fog. It is caused by firework! I think it is good looking if I go up to roof of my house.

　My target in this year is finish Cyclasics lower than 2 hour 40 minutes. If I have enough training, final target is 2 hour 30 minutes. I'd like to improve German and English.
